Jim and Linda Stout founded LJ Engineering as a sole proprietorship in 1971. Prior to that, Jim Stout began with two (2) manual Bridgeport mills in his family garage that he operated each day after his workday as a machinist. LJ's first "business location" was a 1,500 sq. ft. rented space filled with five (5) manual machines and two (2) employees. At that time, LJ began making its reputation as a shop that had the ability to work with engineers during the development stages of a project and the ability to machine "difficult" parts. From its inception, Jim and Linda grew the company in a manner that kept pace with their customers' requirements while limiting their financial exposure. In other words, Jim and Linda took an approach of conservative, but steady growth. In 1997, LJ incorporated, and under the guidance of the current management team, added 2 new facilities dedicated to new products and electro static chucks, doubled the number of employees to 120, and purchased new equipment and IT systems to support this growth. Throughout the years, LJ has maintained its original reputation as a highly skilled organization able to assist its customers during the development phase of a project. However, LJ now has the capacity and infrastructure to provide its customers with full support throughout a product’s entire life cycle.
