Bay Area Green Business Certification

LJ Engineering has ben a certified Bay Area Green Business since August 2008.  The Bay Area Green Business Program verifies that businesses meet higher standards of environmental performance. It is a partnership of government agencies and utilities helps local businesses comply with all environmental regulations and take actions to conserve resources, prevent pollution, and minimize waste. In order to earn Green Business recognition, LJ has undertaken the following responsibilities:

• Work with Santa Clara County agencies to verify that LJ Engineering complyies with any applicable environmental regulations.  This includes site visits from wastewater, storm water, hazardous materials/waste, and air quality regulators, and more.
• Use the Green Business checklist to select and record measures to conserve resources and prevent pollution.  Actions include:
  • using recycled-content paper and copying double-sided
  • cleaning with less toxic products
  • installing efficient lighting systems to save energy
  • conserving water
  • tracking solid waste generation
  • establishing an iin-house Green Team

LJ has also pledged to stay green and to help other local businesses earn Green Business certification.

Honorable Mention

LJ Engineering won an Honorable Mention for Energy Efficiency – This award recognizes efforts to reduce total energy (electricity and/or natural gas) consumption through the installation of energy-efficient equipment, lighting and appliances or through the completion of energy-efficient building retrofits or new construction projects.

LJ has been taking strong steps to save energy and water. In 2008 alone, the company installed energy efficient lighting retrofits, performed printer consolidations, and installed an 86 kW solar PV system to help reduce energy use by 28% from the previous year. LJ has also reduced gas therms for a 63% savings from last year and has reduce water use by 37% or 78,540 gallons.
